Per Darron's suggestion, Auctioneers can now be added to the Auctioneer group here at AuctionCommunity.com. This will allow community members to distinguish the professional auctioneers within the community. In addition to having the Auctioneer group listed under the name on posts, Auctioneers will also have access to content intended solely for auctioneers. Some Auctioneers have already been added to the group. To see if you are already a member, look under your name at one of your existing forum posts. If it only says "New Member", you are not yet added to the group. If it says "New Member" and "Auctioneer" underneath, then you are already added. If you are an auctioneer and would like to be added to the auctioneer group, simply reply to this thread with your full name, company information, and contact information. If you prefer to keep your information private, you can send a private forum message to an administrator by clicking here. Thank you for being a member of AuctionCommunity.com!

Stuart, Per Darron's suggestion, Auctioneers can now be added to the Auctioneer group here at AuctionCommunity.com. This will allow community members to distinguish the professional, licensed auctioneers within the community. In addition to having the Auctioneer group listed under the name on posts, Auctioneers will also have access to content intended solely for auctioneers. If you are an auctioneer and would like to be added to the auctioneer group, simply reply to this thread with your full name, company information, and contact information. If you prefer to keep your information private, you can send a private forum message to an administrator by clicking here. Since there are states that do not require the Professional Auctioneer to have a license, my suggestion would be to have it either / or, so that a Professional Auctioneer is not excluded by thinking they must be licensed to join the board. Or just change it to "would you like to be added to the auctioneer group," as shown above. John

John,
Good call! I removed the "licensed" so all auctioneers feel welcome to participate. I know New Jersey does not require a license to become an auctioneer. What other states waive licensing requirements for auctioneers?

Stuart, I believe Michigan does not require a license currently, however they have a new law coming. "Beginning October 1, 2007, anyone using the title "Registered Auctioneer" will be required to be registered with the Department of Labor & Economic Growth, Bureau of Commercial Services at (517) 241-9288 or visit our website at www.michigan.gov/commerciallicensing." Please make sure Lyn Liechty from Michigan has the Auctioneer designation, he is grumpy enough without slighting him. John

Stuart: I have the same issue as Mike V. That when I'm signed in I can only get to the private boards, and can get to the public boards only if I'm a guest.
I need a secret decoder ring too. Thanks.
Permissions should be all set so that members of the Auctioneer group can access all of the boards. Stuart, <snip/> Please make sure Lyn Liechty from Michigan has the Auctioneer designation, he is grumpy enough without slighting him. John Welcome, Lyn! We look forward to your input, and I added you to the Auctioneer group.

Stuart
Arizona is not a licensed state. Basic business license and bond is required most places. Auctioneer specific licenses vary by municipality - we are lumped in with pawn shops, massage parlors, second hand stores. Phoenix issues yearly license. Scottsdale requires one per event...even if its on a regular basis you have to submit fingerprints and application each time! City of Tucson requires auctioneer license within city limits, unicorporated areas is general business license only.

While Michigan may not have a license, October of 2007, they will have voluntary registration. Back in the eighties I worked long and hard for licensing but came upon obstacles that were unsurmountable then. The old timers told me back in 1984 that it couldn't be done. For about 6 years I did not believe them. I then gave up. I am so proud of the youngsters that got 'er done. I have sales on the 1st and 2nd. Come the 3rd, I will be in our capitol getting signed up.

Fred,
I added you to the Auction group yesterday on Sunday when you registered. Look under your name on the board and you should see Auctioneer. This means you can access the private Auctioneers section of the board...
I try to add all the auctioneers I can identify right off when they register...
Auctioneers please use the private area Auctioneers only when discussing issues that should only concern auctioneers. The public side is just that public...
Thanks, Rick R
